Description
Dennis Eckersley might have been on the losing end of Kirk Gibson’s famous homer in the ’88 World Series, but if it wasn’t for that historic day in baseball, Eck never would have coined the phrase “walk-off homer.” Eckersley accomplished a lot more in his career than creating new vocabulary though. In 24 seasons, Eck was a force on the mound. First as a starter, where he won 20 games in Boston and compiled a 2.99 ERA in ’92. Once he went to Oakland, Eck transformed into a relief role and in 1988 became a dominant closer, saving 45 games for the A’s. In 1992 he saved 52 games for Oakland, becoming the first player in baseball history to win 20 games and save 50 games in a season. Eckersley did avenge himself from that ’88 World Series as he saved Game 4 of the ’89 World Series and clinched the Commissioner’s Trophy for the A’s. Honor one of the most dominating pitchers of the era by wearing this Dennis Eckersley Nike tee. Featuring a print of Eck on the front with a throwback team logo on the back yoke, this A’s shirt will have the Hall of Fame inductee in the minds of A’s fans forever.
